Do you think Joe and Patrick remained friends?

I know we see them have a laugh with each other, but i think it will start to slowly fade away. If you have ever been in Joe's situation before then you know how hard it would be to watch your best friend with your "dream girl." Their friendship would never be the same as it once was. Patrick 100% broke the bro code

reply

Honestly I don't. I doubt Joe would ever want to be around Patrick as long as Kelly's around. And I agree about the brocode. What a douche.

Welcome to the island of misfit toys.

I think the cars heading off in different directions was symbolic of Joe and Patrick. I don't think their friendship will ever be the same, but the memories will never be forgotten.

Cars going in different directions, pretty obvious what that ment. Agree

I think they remained friends, but their friendship will never be like it used to. And in a "coming of age" type of story, this is to be expected... sometimes you grow apart from your friends, sometimes things happen that just cannot be forgotten and change things forever. I think the last scene, with Joe and Patrick laughing and flipping each other off, is supposed to indicate that they are "cool" with one another, that there is no animosity there, and Joe isn't going to harp over Patrick and Kelly anymore, but I doubt Joe is just going to become completely comfortable around the two of them or ever really view Patrick the same way again.

Patrick will actually grow up and dump stupid concepts like "the bro code" while Joe will grow into more of a bitter manchild loser who'll end up on that Nice Guys of OkCupid tumblr page.

The film makes it more apparent when the cars go in different directions. From my personal life, I have seen women behave similarly toward men. Either the guy breaks all contact or remains her obedient tool. It's obvious the former happened.

reply

How thick can you be? Why would they show that smile between the two of them if he two would only grow apart later> IT was clearly implying a happy ending.

It sounds like you want to troll . Anyway, they simply smiled to each other as their cars drove in different directions. They may be on "good terms' but there's no stipulation they return to where they were. I think the cars going in opposite directions provides insight in answering that question.

Thinking your opinion is wrong doesn't make somebody a troll.

Calling someone "thick" does . ..

Your post asked questions that he's answered and you either ignored or dismissed what was said. You can see that they both made an effort in patching things up but then proceed to go in different directions. Pretty basic film making, and you came across as someone who just HAD to disagree, who had to be contradictory. Some feel that is troll-like behaviour. Maybe you are just beginning to be a troll and you have received a friendly warning? It's not to late to get back on the path- don't spend too much time under that bridge.

I think the way they grinned at each other at the end was pretty self-explanitory. They had forgiven each other for everything. They're still going to be good friends. Bros before hoes.

reply

You can't call out "bros before hoes; after your bro steals your hoe. Considering Patrick is the one who broke the code, Joe wouldn't ever be okay with that-- and he shouldn't be anyways.

reply

Bros before hoes implies that you take your "bro" into consideration before making any decisions about women. This wasn't the case. I agree with Raulmorte. He shouldn't be friends with either them. There was no obligation for the girl to date him and he has no obligation to be friends.

joe broke the bro code. hilarious. i would be happy for a friend for getting sexy times. jealousy is a weapon of the weak.

Kelly most have known about Joe's feelings (at the latest: the flowers). I doubt she was just clinging to him for attention, so I guess she wanted to genuinely be his friend. She didn't, however, tiptoe around his feelings and - even when falling for someone - a real friend wouldn't just go ahead and start dating his best friend when she knew what was up.

Patrick would have definitely known about Joe's feelings for Kelly and wasn't shown to have much interest in Kelly earlier. Only when she started to get interested in him did he take his chance - simply ignoring his best friend's feelings. If he hadn't known or they were openly competing for the same girl, it could have easily been forgiven. But the way it is, the betrayal will stay with Joe, especially when he hangs out with Kelly and Patrick as couple. Depending on how long that relationship lasts, I think Patrick and Joe will drift apart - even though they have forgiven each other. If Kelly were out of the picture soon after, I think they would become the close friends again they used to be.
