Terrible. Walked out of the screening.

It isn't a movie at all, but rather a lousy kid's TV show. Almost every spoken line is a ridiculous wisecrack, which completely overshadows whatever story or plot there was.

Troll. The film is amazing. It's going to get very positive reviews.

No one walked out of the screening at Tyson's Corner on May 30th.

reply

While I didn't think it was a great film, no one walked out of the screening I was at either. I gave it a 7.

reply

Do you feel this movie is ok for a 14 year old to watch. What type of material is in it that earned it an R rating?

reply

For "Language." Teenagers talking like teenagers do. Oh and some teenagers drink beer. No one gets drunk, drives irresponsibly and there is no sex, nudity or violence.

reply

Maybe you ended up in the wrong theater because of how stupid you are?

reply

I couldn't agree more. This film was seriously awful. I was excited to see it since I had heard only good things. Caught an advanced screening of it in LA. It was actually saddening how horrible it was. Before everyone jumps all over my ass about how "stupid" I am and how I should go see Transformers instead, take a *beep* breath. I love independent film and film in general. This is all just my opinion, and its okay that people have different opinions. Its sad that I even have to write that.
Kings of Summer was an extended music video with some really bad jokes forced in and characters with about as much depth and dimension as a dixie cup. The place was packed with hipsters who've seen a couple of Wes Anderson movies and now consider themselves film buffs (probably not too far behind the filmmakers themselves). The fact that people even TRY to lump this in with Stand By Me is ridiculous and makes me wonder if they've actually even seen that movie. Its a comparison people love to make, but then actually have no real way to back it up considering Stand By Me has...oh you know, an actual PLOT and CONFLICT and CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT in it. Kind of important components to include when you're writing a screenplay. Anyway, that was my rant. Just my two cents. Now please tell me what an idiot I am and that I should go watch Iron Man.

I couldn't agree with you more, Stand by Me is one of my all time favorite films, loved it growing up and love it now, I thought it was just sad people were confused enough to compare this to that film. They couldn't be less alike.

But Seriously Your Opinion Is Wrong

reply

Stand by me sucked cock bigtime. Who gives a *beep* about four losers.

I saw it with zero expectations and enjoyed most of it.

Then again, I can generally find something to enjoy in most films.

Seems strange that someone who walked out in a hissy fit (is there any other reason to walk out of a movie once paying?) wants people to care about their opinion.

I don't care that you didn't like it.

I don't care that you walked out.

I enjoyed it, so there!

Your post is childish and lame.

reply

....because following up a statement with "so there!" isn't childish at all, right? The OP was just expressing something called an "opinion". Getting upset about the fact that he doesn't agree with you (and yes, you are upset) is the mark of ignorance. Try actual discussion next time.

reply

OP doesn't deserve an opinion if he didn't watch the whole thing.

reply

You are a troll and an idiot.

reply

Everyone is certainly entitled to their opinion, but I have to disagree with you! I absolutely loved this film, probably my favorite so far this year. Sure, the screenplay was a bit weak, but the characters, cinematography, and music made up for it. It was a beautifully shot film.

I was disapointed by it as well. Afet all the hype , I was expecting something great , it was far from terrible but it definitely is not a film I would watch again.
There was some good scenes in it and the actors were all good in their roles , my problem is with the direction , there was lots of random stuff trown into the film , the director was trying to be too quirky , at times it all felt like a music video.
Lot's of filler scenes , the film could have lasted half of it's running time and would have made perfect sense. To make it short I feel the film felt too long for the story it was telling.
I watched it to the end but at time I wanted to reach for my remote to fast forward it.
I dont get why some compared it to "Stand by me" ... I personally dont find it half as good...

reply

Well put, another waste of time

reply

I agree with all of this

except that I wonder if you have seen any "Kid's TV shows" recently, say anything by Disney. This movie may be pretty dumb and the script may alternate between stupid and snarky, but

It Deserves Pulitzers & Oscars Compared to Anything on Disney Channel
