Why was Sophia's friend (forgot her name now...Astrid?) trying to kill her??
It seemed like she was possessed or evil. What did I miss?

The old woman in the black veil (on holiday from bullying little boys in the "Insidious" movies?) attacked and possessed her. Wasn't she sat in a rocking chair or something?
Astrid was then unpossessed after Sophia punched the veiled woman's lights out in the overlong "attack of old ghost men in nappies" sequence. It is unclear whether Astrid is alive or dead after her possession.
