Russians deserved the art a hell of a lot more than the French

Why in the world was the art returned to France? Those cowards gave up so easily during WW2 and did little to nothing to win the war. The movie mentioned the Russians wanted the art for reparations for 20 millions lives lost, and they should have taken whatever the hell they wanted from the French. The Russians deserve at the very LEAST the art works. I mean it was all stolen by Napolean in the first place anyways. But no the French get invaded, beg for help, gets saved by Russians, but still wanna keep all their stuff.

Why in the world was the art returned to France?
...for the same reason that the colonies of Indochina (ya know...Viet Nam and such) were returned to the French after the war...instead of letting them go liberated and free like they wanted: Because wars are fought to increase or protect the assets of very very very rich companies/corporations and people.

WWII was billed as a fight to "free the world" from Axis tyranny. It resulted in every nation that was under an Allied Power's control being 'returned' to that Allied country after the war...and one Allied power racked up big points by coming into the game late when everybody was weak and then making nice big deals for global control. It lasts to this day.

Oh don't you worry, the Russians took their share.. they seemed to like 3d rather than 2d.

Not sure how much art would've been worth in a communist economy.

In defense of the French, whom do you think was covering the retreat at Dunkirk? The French were plagued like most countries with bad generals, tactics, and politicians, not the soldiers them selves.

reply

Not to take anything away from the French rearguard at Dunkirk, the rearguard there consisted of French and British troops- who went "into the bag". The British and French defence of Calais did much to delay the Germans too.
The French and British were tactically out maneuvered in the Battle of France, once the Germans held the advantage there was little chance of changing the eventual outcome.

Trust me. I know what I'm doing.

Stalin caused the deaths by starvation of millions of Ukrainians, and his collective farms caused still more deaths. Yes, 20 million Russians died in the war. But Stalin was as responsible as the Nazis, and his terror tactics didn't justify looting the art.

reply

I agree. France did not deserve any considerations, given their conduct.

reply

Maybe the Russians should start by paying back the 1.3 billion dollars or the equivalent of 17 billion in todays dollars for the lend lease from the USA during WWII.

reply

I agree 100% with the OP. The French couldn't be bothered making the social sacrifices to pay for their armed forces in the 1930s so they just capitulated like cowards in 1940. The Russians more even than the British Empire & America (in Europe) saved them but their ingratitude from the moment of their foreign-earned liberty says everything about them.

Well the Russians were allies of Germany (Until Operation Barbarossa)

How many Brits died in the Blitz??

The art, I'm guessing was returned to where it was seized by the Germans.

HOW much art did the Germans seize while they were in Russia??

The Russians don't deserve Reparations
