It was a good idea for the writers to split events of the plot and story in parallel between 1590 and present day which made it more interesting and engaging. Great performances by everyone especially the two leads. Having a series that includes witches, vampires, and demons is nothing new or original, however, the plot, and overall suspenseful tone made it interesting enough to be a watchful show. My only complaint was how much of a cliffhanger the last episode was which was certainly left open for a third season.
Oh man, I can't believe there are no replies, I miss the IMDB message board so much but at least it was there for the original Penny Dreadful!
Anyway, I binge watched the 2nd series of DOW and was kind of disappointed, I mean people said and did some pretty dumb stuff(Marcus & Diana) that made me wonder a bit at their reasoning, I then read the books and that helped but if you're watching the series as a stand alone, I think the script is lacking in that it doesn't give an indication as to why some things are happening so it appears a little disjointed but overall it was watchable, although I cannot warm to Theresa Palmer as Diana
I watched the first season and I generally liked it. A run of the mill supernatural romance, but fun. My main problem was the empty place where the main female character should be. Is season 2 any better?
For me Facebook groups dedicated to the shows have been a good alternative to IMDB message boards, because they are very active, especially when a new season comes out.
The only downside is that you have to to join a different group for each show.
