THIS is what is known as a "Mockbuster," a film, a low-budget film that is created specifically to ride the coat-tails of big-budget films, making its money from people who get hyped to see a blockbuster, but who can't quite remember the name or the cast of the real thing. "American Warships" was put out by The Asylum, who brought us such classics as: I Am Omega Transmorphers Snakes on a Train Titanic II Paranormal Entity Almighty Thor Abraham Lincoln vs. Zombies And other such non-classics.
They also create original material such as "Mega-Python Vs. Gatoroid."
I've seen their stuff before, deliberately, and this is one of the better ones. I haven't seen Battleship yet, but from what I've heard, this one's better. I found "American Warships" to be cheesy fun, well worth the rental price for me. (Because I watched it for effectively free, via my NetFlix account)
Not really glad or proud, but perhaps happy that you got to see both versions of the story. I have seen both movies, and they both have some good and some bad elements in them. American battleship combined with Battleship would probably produce one really good movie. Battleship had a proper budget and couple of decent actors whereas American battleship had a certain level of seriousness and a sense of reality going on (As soon as one gets over rather lackluster special effects and lazy acting, that is...).
