The Biggest disappointment with George Takei

This guy really seems to care about gay rights and such. Which is great...

but when he accepted that award from the Japanese government that didnt allow his husband attend. Very sad.

No excuse.

Im not a zealot and this doesnt really matter to me. Im just pointing it out.

Mr. Takei.... throw that award in the trash. Fast. Or you are a hypocrite.

Yes, I expected George to say that he turned around and walked back onto the bus and joined his partner. I also expected his partner to say that he was angry at George for moving forward and accepting the award. Interesting that apparently no one else on the bus said, "wait...where is George's husband"?? Perhaps this is about older gay males expectations. That exclusion is the norm, so when it happens in a changing world, they revert back to their old belief/expectation that they are second-class and should just take what they can get. Plus Takei was in the strange situation of accepting acknowledgment of a wrong done to him in regards to his race, only to have prejudice inflicting upon him because of his sexual orientation. It was a spur-of-the-moment, confusing split-second happening. Sometimes when people are stunned, they just do what they are supposed to and it takes time to realize that a mistake was made...and they went along with it. But at the end of the day, Takei was not the wrong-doer in the situation, he was the victim of wrong-doing.

I can only go off of what was shown. If George would like to come on here and explain, I'd love to hear it.

He may not have been the wrong doer, but he was wrong. There is no way I would ever accept an award where my bf/gf were humiliated in such a fashion. I don't care what the award is.

And the fact that George is a gay rights activist makes it even worse.
