Interesting revelation

Nice, gentle movie, but I really enjoyed the discovery of where all the butterflies disappeared to during the winter—and that no one could figure it out for nearly four decades.

Saw the movie recently ... nicely done.

I saw the Monarch butterflies in a nature reserve near Valle de Bravo/Mexico two years ago (in daytrip distance to Mexico City if you start early).

You hike 1 1/2 hours up a mountain with a guide - quite exhausting due to the height. Then you start to see individual butterflies. Then comes an opening in the woods where thousands of butterflies whirl above you in the skies, so you even hear the vibration from their flapping wings - a constant humming. The tree barks are covered with layers of butterflies. The twigs bend under the cumulated weight of the butterflies. The bright orange contrasts with the green of the fir needles. At other places, the butterflies congregate on the ground like an orange carpet.

That was the most amazing thing I saw in my entire life. I still have goosebumps when I think of it. I love nature documentaries, but nothing can prepare you for the real thing.
