Why is Kevin Smith on the show?

He doesnt work at the store and seems to be just trying to cash in on their success because he owns it which seems to steal the spotlight from the people who work there.

Well the show wouldn't exist if Smith didn't own the store.

Oh my god! You would think people would have known, especially with the name of the store. Kevin owns the shop. He names it after the characters both he and Jason Mewes played in some of his movies. This is like the 2nd or 3rd version of the store. I remember seeing the original store featured in some MTV promos way back when. All these guys are his friends and a few of them have even been in his movies. Anyway, if you want to hear more of the guys you can listen to all their podcasts which are recorded right there on that old poker table they have on the show. Tell em steve dave, I sell comics, etc.

I'm guessing he is obligated by contract to appear on every episode. The network would probably insist upon it seeing as he is the draw of the show to begin with. Without him, no show, no store.

reply

Actually the show was sold on the premise of the podcast Walt and Bry have called "Tell 'Em Steve-Dave!" which has a very devoted following.

reply

That's actually pretty cool, I didn't know that. I bet they still are required to have Smith on the TV show to draw in folks not aware of the podcast, myself included.

reply

You got that completely backwards. Kevin is the sole reason the show exists.

Nobody would give a sh_t about this show if Smith weren't on it.

The Adventures of Walt Flanagan and Steve-Dave isn't a draw.

reply

Exactly. OG loyal ant here, but no Kevin, no show.

Kevin is the selling point of the show because of his celebrity, plus I think he's hilarious sometimes. Why would you complain about him being on the show?

reply

he recently retold the story on how this show even got started, it was at the comic con and was the latest podcast on Smodcast. it was taped at the comic con with the cast of Comic Book Men. But as usual Kevin did all the talking while the guys mainly remained quiet and you could hear them laughing in the background.

AMC was looking to do reality based shows and the idea of doing a comic show like Pawn Stars came up. Kevin never even mentioned he had his own shop during the time AMC was looking for the comic store. They found out and then he had to convince the guys, especially Walt and Brian.

nerd chick, you answered your own question (you must be 12 or younger or a moron), He OWNS it, he PRODUCES it...it's his, he owns another store like in LA, it's how he MAKES MONEY...not my choice of professions but this entire train wreck is his idea...the other ppl on the show are the hangers on...

but in about 20 years you'll find that out after you slack your way through college....

Can you make a single post without trolling? I'm going to guess not, you sound like a 10 year old in all your post.
