i actually enjoyed this

hk (just like hollywood and other places) produces a lot of crap movies, even though this movie isn't without flaws, i did enjoy it.

we do see that there's effort put into the movie and the actors did a good job portraying their roles. i especially like nick cheung nowadays, playing the "bad guy" (beast stalker, anyone?). i really think nick is a superb actor, he's so versatile. he can be a comedian in a slapstick, play serious roles as a good guy and play some wicked creepy bad guy as well.

simon yam didn't get much room to play his role in this movie, which is a bummer.

overall, i did enjoy this movie like i said, hong kong should definitely make more of these "higher quality movies".

Nice post. I came here to say the same thing.

This was a lot better than I expected.

A lot of Hong Kong flicks have been coming up short of their South Korean counterparts, but this movie kind of ranks right up there alongside some of the best SK films (not quite as good as things like I Saw The Devil, Yellow Sea or Chaser, but certainly better than messy, incoherent titles like Cold War).

I thought this movie showed a good level of restraint, even though there were a few over-the-top and unnecessary Hong Kong moments for the sake of thrills. At least they're stepping up the quality in the face of all the unforgettable and highly competent SK films that have been coming out lately.

I watched it last night and really enjoyed it. I worked it out fairly early on but there were still some points that kept me guessing (and questioning my theory) but I think it is one of those films that could benefit from a second viewing.

Nick Cheung was brilliant. Totally owned the film and that prison fight scene was great.

The guy playing Zoe's father was a bit wooden when speaking in English.

Yes, you are right about Lam and also, his backstory popped up several times as if to say that we would get to find out about his wife's suicide but it never played out. Maybe there was a sub plot with this and it was cut to save time.

In short a superb yet tragic story. and a very under-rated movie.
