The contestants.....

How over the top do they tell people to be? I'm currently watching the couples episode from the premiere. The gay couple: One of the guys touched a human foot and said "Puh-lease thats disgusting that better be pedicured, mmkay?"

Are you kidding me dude? Way to put gay people back about 10 years. At least the first episode was realistic people. Although anyone with the name Awet, shouldn't be on Tv.

And the black couple Sylvia and John need to breakup and/or be punched in the face.

You don't know many gay men, do you?

You don't know why gay people have to be on the show? Are you kidding me? Does it matter that they are gay? Besides, how do you know they are gay? They don't all advertise it. They could just be straight and very flamboyant. WTFever. Don't be so prejudice.

There is always too much month and not enough money.

They definitely referred to each other as "baby" and they said "i love you" a couple of times. Pretty sure that confirms it.

They don't all advertise it, but these two were definitely gay. They definitely referred to each other as "baby" and they said "i love you" a couple of times. Pretty sure that confirms it. Although I agree that them being gay should have no impact on their eligibility for this show.

reply

I wasn't confirming or denying that they were gay. I was making a point to the person I responded to...who got deleted by the administration...that he was being a prejudiced jerk. It shouldn't matter what race, size, gender, or what your sexual preference is in order to be on the show. I rather enjoyed watching them myself. One thing I love about this show is that they don't just have the 'pretty' people on there. They have a melting pot and I think it is great. Granted I wouldn't put my big butt in those spandex outfits to save my hide LOLOL.

Believe it or not, most gay men find that type of stereotype to be an embarrassment. I have a family member who is gay and whenever he sees a stereotype he gets unbelievably angry at it. And its not just the gay couple that was over the top. The black couple sounded straight out of every stereotypical black community film imaginable.

reply

Maybe not all gay men act and speak like that. But there definitely are some who do, from what I've seen at work and in community theater productions.

The basic premise of the show pretty much requires the contestants to be afraid of their own shadows.

Anyone who thought this would be another "Fear Factor" was probably disappointed as soon as the lights went out, and the majority of the contestants turned into "Screamin' Mimi's."

Let's face it, people who are willing to wade into a pool of blood to eat cow hearts, jump out of helicopters, etc., aren't likely to react like a scared little kid when they reach into a fish tank and touch an octopus, or a brush, for that matter.

I don't see this show lasting too long on the SyFy channel -- Logo, perhaps.

@fatguystalkingaboutmetal

We each clearly have our own opinions on this subject. I'll just say that stereotypes weren't created in a vacuum. For every non-stereotypical human being I know there are two that fit the stereotype be it gay, black, Mormon, southerner, etc. etc. I'm not talking out of my ass, either. I have black folks in my family, I married into a Hawaiian family and one of my sons is gay. Yeah, my son acts like a musclehead/jock type but every guy he's ever dated has been a swishy queen. Don't tell me stereotypes aren't among us because they totally are.

The black couple cracked me up talking about worms. I just knew going in, those two would be the loud ones. It's a stereotype. Of course. Just like the gay couple. I think they got them for the rating blip. No one wants to watch a regular game show about feats if someone isn't interesting. If they just tone down on the gay stereotypes, I'd be happy.

haha, I loved Awet, she was hilarious. I laughed every time she was doing those quick hand motions.
