This totally reminds me of Gran Torino, the boy works for the old grumpy guy who tries to make a man out of him but in a funny way.
shareGran Torino wasn't devoid of humor. It actually tries to be funny fairly often. Another similar movie is As Good As It Gets except no kid is involved but otherwise the plot is similar. About a Boy is another one.

shareYes, I started thinking of Gran Torino about a third of the way through (or maybe earlier). I thought Gran Torino has more backbone, but the starting concept of the character is similar. I liked St Vincent, but thought it went for the too-easy tear-jerking scenes; the character is mushier than Eastwood's character.
