I got this on netflix but it appears as a 2 hour long movie. Have they just stitched together the first season or is it something completely different?

Yeah, it's just season 1 with no breaks between episodes.

What's the difference between the 5 episode season 1 on netflix and the original season 1? Did they skip episodes or just combine a few?

It appears that they combined all 9 episodes, perhaps with some editing.

In case you haven't found it yet, it's now on Netflix. Look for the VGHS that's separate episodes, not the movie. Enjoy!

Thank you :) I ended up watching it on YouTube (Netflix sent me an email about it being on Netflix, too--very cool--sad that it's over :(...hope they might make a Season 4 :))
