This was okay, but....

To see a really good Chinese romantic comedy, I suggest watching "Waiting Alone" (Du Zi Deng Dai) which came out in 2005 and become a favorite in China. It was funnier and more touching because of better chemestry between cast, the acting, and the directing.

I didn't know the Chinese made romantic comedies. Seriously.

I don't know if you include Hong Kong in your assessment, but if you do, there are LOTS of romantic comedies. Given its British and Western influences, Hong Kong is, of course, still culturally very different from mainland China. That said, you can find plenty of Hong Kong romantic comedies on YOuTube, mostly from the 1950s-1970s (anything later would usually fall victim to the copyright police, and be quickly deleted). In terms of TV, I'd say that 20-30% of their telenovelas are romantic comedies. The current TVB primetime telenovela, Cat Feces Mama (aka Coffee Cat Mama), is arguably a romantic comedy (I don't speak Chinese so don't ask me about the title). Taiwan has also made lots of romantic comedies.

As for mainland China, not only do they have romantic comedies now, but a few years ago, they even aired a romantic comedy MUSICAL telenovela! Yep, the cast would break into song even more spontaneously than they do on Glee.
