Accuracy diminished by lazy footage inserts

Frequently in this series we see video clips of trains moving through the countryside. 90% of the time, they are BRITISH TRAINS in the British countryside. They unashamedly show titles such as L.M.S. on the cars (LMS = London, Midland, Scottish) or even the Lion symbol of British Rail. If you are that careless, how careless have you been with the story-line. And why did you not know that Andrew Carnegie was working for Tom Scott at the outbreak of the Civil War and was sent for by Lincoln to manage the Railroads for the Union Army.

Filming and production costs are what they are, which sometimes causes producers to find more suitable locations even when they are not American. Otherwise, the history is accurate.

I still give this series high marks, as it made history engaging, especially to high school students.

My students, largely inner city and non-white, were STILL enthralled by the antics of the white male industrialists of a century and a half ago and really enjoyed the series, taking away valuable lessons from it. Who would have thought?
