Robyn Davidson and Laura Dekker

For those who see this movie but don't know about "Maidentrip", you may want to look that one up. It is a documentary about Laura Dekker who at 14 began a solo sailing trip around the world. The two movies are more similar than they are different.

One is very wet, the other very dry. But both feature headstrong young women determined to make a trip that most family and friends told them they shouldn't make. Both needed to raise money from sponsorship, both needed to rely on toughness to deal with unexpected obstacles. Both dreaded the tourists and reporters who wanted to get "up close and personal" with them.

I enjoyed both movies, as has often been stated "truth is stranger than fiction."
