Warning at the beginning of the film

I was paying attention and by the time I looked up, I only had time to read the beginning, it said something like "caution Torre islanders..." anybody recall the full text of that little prologue?

reply

It warns there may be images of Australian Aboriginals who are deceased.

something about cultures where showing a person now dead on film is taboo. There was no waring that the film was about an animal abuser though, and that the viewer might find beating up on animals to make up for a bad upbringing to be offensive.

reply

Yes I agree a warning about the graphic animal abuse would have been good!

reply

A few Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander groups find it disrespectful to look at images of people they knew who died. It is a cultural thing.

reply

t's a general standard warning to aboriginal Torres Strait Islanders (aboriginals). What everyone has said is correct. It is placed at the beginning of movies and telemovies when aboriginal actors or extras appear on film. Culturally, no aboriginal is allowed to see a movie with now deceased actors/extras on film. For instance, one of the main aboriginal actors in 'Australia' died in 2011, meaning that all the other aboriginal actors that appeared in that movie can no longer revisit watching themselves in that movie.
