Good idea spoiled by a nonsensical plot - spoilers

I had all things running through my mind.

Was Tom trying to scare Lucy because he was the psycho?? Was Lucy in on it, trying to scare Tom??

Had Tom done something in his past which caused Lucy to hate him and thus set him up???

But then I dismissed that because Lucy didn't know Tom had arranged a hotel booking.

We know the guys 'from the pub' were a red herring, but it would have made more sense than the real plot.

Some crazy guy (Max) luring people to a fake hotel to kill them.

I actually really liked this movie and thought it was really scary. It was something a little different & kept me guessing for a bit...

I'm always right

Generally accurate, except this part:

"The second act shows them trying to reach the hotel, but having difficulty. As they approach the turnoff to the hotel, a Rover vehicle approaches them in a menacing way from behind. This person/persons whips around their car, but continues on in a different direction. The couple decides this vehicle came from the pub; seemingly someone won't let something go. They try to brush this scare off."

No, they followed the Land Rover from the pub. Tom was told when he booked that a vehicle would meet them at the pub and guide them to the hotel. The Land Rover had a sign with the hotel's name attached to its rear, so was obviously the right vehicle. The driver made it obvious that they had to go through the gate with the chain on it (and another hotel sign). They see the vehicle with the men from the pub passing them on the other road as they go through the gate. It's a different vehicle.
