Found it hard to root for anyone in this movie other than them.

In a way, I agree with this. They were the only characters that had honor and self-dignity for what they did and believed in. But on the other hand, we aren't meant to sympathize with them because they were working for criminals and even went as far as to kill everyone that stood in their way.

Yes you felt sorry for them because there boss who they were loyal to was about to snitch on them.
And then the awesome shootout in the factory. I thought finally I see some heroes in this movie.

Can't agree: I thought the cops were admirably portrayed throughout, and the Captain clung on to his captive even in death. The SWAT squad very promptly rescued the children from the school bus, too. It also was satisfying to see the bad guy get painlessly executed at the end.

Wow you sound like Chinese media spurring propaganda.

The cops were all so one-dimensional and predictable. Most of them maintain one facial expression throughout the movie. It's hard to root for such unemotional people.
