I also got confused maintaining who's who throughout the movie. You know, keeping up with visuals, subtitles and the number of characters. The movie is fast. Watch it for the last 20 minutes. That's the best 20 minutes I've spend in the last few years.
shareYeah I found this movie very confusing. The subtitles I was watching it with were crap too though. I agree the ending shootout was pretty nice but I can't say I enjoyed the movie as a whole besides that.
shareYou should check out the man from nowhere. It's a thriller that is easier to follow and has some more action then this. I thought drug war was great. Not as great as new world but very intense.
shareAt times I wonder if the confusion is intentional, as if the movie makers wanted to make us feel like we are witnesses to the events.
But then again, Johnnie To's movies often neglect to give the viewers the background to the stories, forcing viewers to piece the whole puzzles together (like The Mad Detective has a seemingly meandering plot until the last scene where everything makes sense.)
The climactic gun battle is definitely worth seeing.
