Well, this isn't a simple actioner. It's a crime drama. I actually get annoyed at movies in which the good guys defy impossible odds and still make it out unscathed. Note the fact that right before the final shootout, Choi told all his drug dealer friends that the cops had been up all night and are exhausted, which definitely reduces their combat capability. The fact that everyone dies is also foreshadowed when Captain Zhang tells Choi, "If you want to die, I'll be with you. If you want to live, I'll also be with you."
Since the Captain wasn't moving after he cuffed Choi's leg, it's safe to assume that he died. However, I would like to know if his assistant made it. She looked like she had a chance.
Yeah, the movie's ending kinda bummed me out, but that's why I liked it. It gives the realistic notion that nobody is safe in a shootout and defies your expectations.
