Gross!!!

The one celeb (I don't know her name) was spreading raspberry jam with her bare hands. GROSS!!! Can't she find a spoon? That was really nasty.

it's a personal touch?

It's a nasty touch. I noticed that that Guy's team used tongs to serve food, while Rachael's team used their bare hands. *shivers*

I know. That's the thing about these celebrity "cooks". You can't do what you do at home for family when you're feeding the public. And as someone else said, Guy's team uses tongs. Maybe that comes from the fact that Guy runs a business serving the public so knowing and reminding "staff" of that sort of thing is automatic for him. Whereas Rachael doesn't have that experience and is closer to a home cook like her team.

If you can't walk and talk/text at the same time, do the rest of us a favor and get out of the way.

It did look kinda gross (and inefficient) with all that jam on her hands. But bare hands are used all the time in the food industry. If you watch Guy's Diners Drive-ins and DIves people are always using their bare hands to mix both wet and dry ingredients. Theres a lot of hands involved whenever pizza or meatballs or sushi is made.

That's probably because gloves can collect bacteria just as easily as your bare hands, so as long as their hands are clean it's not that big of a deal.

I just read the same discussion on the Cake Boss message board.

^^ Yeah I never get why chefs on tv don't take off their rings and bracelets when they cook. Not only are fingernails dirty, but rings tend to get dirty as well. They should take them off prior to the start of filming.

It also drives me crazy when they wear clothes that get in the way during food preparation. Barefoot Contessa & Pioneer Woman are big culprits of the long shirt sleeves getting in the way. One day they're gonna go up in flames! I can hear it now, "I'm on fire and finally hot, how fabulous is that?".

Why on earth did Carnie have super long acrylic nails on for this competition? Ughh, I've had my nails done before and I know how easily they can get grimy under the nail. That just grossed me out so much! Also, watching her try to cut onions and other things with long nails, I cringed every time!
