Four twenty-odd-minute episodes seems extremely short for a series...

It was a mini series, they only planned four episodes...

Ahh, right.
I would have thought they would have been longer then.
Minus breaks for adverts etc, the four episodes together probably came to like 80-90 mins.

Never mind, I enjoy it while it lasted :)

s2 is currently airing in the UK - again 4 episodes - 30m including ads

Not sure where you're from, but in the UK it's fairly common that the maximum length of any fiction season will be 8-10 episodes, often less. Admittedly the average is 6, so Young Doctor is on the short side, but then again, Sherlock is only 3 eps per season. We just don't have the cash or setup in the way that California does to make 24 eps of television - it's also unusual to have them be written by more than one person and they will always all be finished before any start to air.

I've heard that before. Thats a shame because I really like some uk shows that ive scene. Feels like it just starts to get going and then boom...its over. The increasingly poor decisions of Todd Margaret
