Not being friends with Geoffrey

This topic has probably been discussed at length but oddly I can't see much about it here.

For a bunch of reasons, I understand why they did not remain a couple. Although in some ways they were great together, essentially they were incompatible when it came to personalities.

So is that the same reason that Josh refused to be friends with him? Incompatible personalities? I don't know. This was one of the most perplexing scenes, in my opinion - when Geoffrey left after crying and revealing that his Dad had died, and left the message saying "I know you don't want to be friends so I won't even ask." Josh puts the phone down, drinks his wine, and goes into the living room. Then he (seems on the outside, anyway) to be completely blasé about it when talking to Patrick. I think this was meant to show flaws or complexities or "issues" in Josh's personality, but I'm not sure. It also seemed quite cold in the circumstances. Thoughts?

Josh and Geoffrey were quite an unstable relationship (hence Josh constantly switching between breaking up with Geoffrey to trying to or getting back with Geoffrey) At the end of the first season Josh wants to try again at a relationship even he rightfully admits he's only interested in Geoffrey because of his good looks and not his personality.

Geoffrey's character could have gotten a much better send off and greater opportunity to flesh out his character (part a big reason it didn't happen was likely there being only 6 episodes of season 1 rather than the 10 episodes we now get for a season). As for the final scene with Geoffrey I think the blame falls of him not Josh. He basically left Josh without even trying to say anything. He blew an opportunity for friendship or even something more. (Granted I didn't really seem them having a serious relationship again)
