Haggling at thrift stores/ Kay the CPA

I hate those people. I go thrifting a lot, have found some seriously great things, and every time I go there is always at least one person holding up the line by arguing with the cashier and trying to bargain down a marked price.

I always want to say, "Its not a garage sale, lady!" And its for charity, for god's sake!

I generally just don't like haggling. It seems rude to me. You could sell a brand new car for $10 and some frickin haggler would try to talk you down to $5.

Wait till you watch the guy haggle the guy at the drive thru (and the party store and the bakery oh yeah and what appeared to be a store that sold brand new items).

reply

That guy is unbelievable. How is going to a drive thru that charges over $12 bucks for 2 hamburgers and 2 chocolate shakes being extremely cheap. If a cashier keeps allowing people to pay with insufficient funds pretty soon they would be gone.Would have been cheaper to buy a cake mix and canned frosting instead of going to a bakery.I would love if someone goes to his hotdog stand tries haggling.

I was curious where they were eating that cost that much for two burgers and two shakes. If he wanted to save money on his anniversary party, you can get cake mix plus frosting for under $5, a bag of plain balloons at a dollar store for $1 - and also more decorations for the same price, etc. If I was trying I could throw a party for $25 and make it look a lot better than his.

I was thinking the same thing! I threw a home birthday for my child and spent under $25 to entertain 12 kids. Homemade cake decorated with My Little Pony decorations from Dollar Tree, a bag of balloons that we blew up ourselves, favor bags filled with clearance candy (this is especially easy to find after Easter and Halloween), we made our own pin the tail on the donkey game, and bought craft supplies for the kids to make art projects. We played games in the backyard. His party looked cheap and his guests looked embarrassed for his wife.

What made it worse is he stood there like he should be proud with his pathetic attempt. I would have smacked him if I had been his wife.

I think it's rude when it's a small business that also has to pay bills and make money. Who needs customers like that. I would rather tell them politely the prices are the prices and there is no haggling.

I don't think she realizes that when clerks ring up an item at a certain price, unless they take the exact amount for that price, their till is short and often they are held accountable to amend that shortage out of pocket or other policies come into line.

Actually, she was a CPA, she probably knows that but was so weird and cheap she doesn't care.

I concur.
