lady who burns her trash

I know in some areas it is legal to burn your trash...HOWEVER there are such things as public health and safety laws. Yes it is legal to burn your trash in my area for example...BUT not in a residential area like her.

You own 10 acres 5 miles outside of city limits and nobody can smell your *beep* burning? In my state, that's legal. Burning your trash in your backyard with that many homes around you? That's not legal.

I have never, ever in my life dealt with a public utility company that charges different rates at different times of the day. It's the same rate 24/7. And I've lived in 7 different states over the course of 35 years.

Cooking dinner at 2 am for supper that night? Umm..okay. As someone who has been in the food and health care industry for 25+ years, I see huge red flags. She could make her family sick by sticking it in the oven letting it sit for several hours cook it then let it sit for several hours.

Next issue-while it's not illegal for her to cut her bushes with loud trimmers at 3 am, there is a such thing as a noise ordinance. You make that much noise at 2, 3 am and some body's bound to call the cops to tell you to knock it off. And if you keep doing it that can fine you for excessive noise. At least in the reality I live in.

Blue, we have Ameren Illinois for our power. For several years now, they have offered a program you can sign up for where the power is charged at a different rate depending on the time of day. The drawback is you HAVE to agree to do the program for a year if you sign up. And the rates are highest during the day, so in the summer you could get slammed because when it's hot, your a/c is going to run more during the day than at night. Also, most people vacuum and use other appliances in the day. But they send you a schedule showing you the hourly rates of the power. She is most likely on that program.

If I had a neighbor outside in the middle of the night mowing or using power tools, I would be angry. And yes, we do have a noise ordinance, and I would think that woman's neighborhood would have one, too. I have to wonder if that midnight yard work wasn't just staged.

Burning trash with houses that close together? Unacceptable. It may be legal for her, but if enough of her neighbors get together and complain to the city, I bet they could easily get that law changed.

Oh I don't doubt some power companies have that. But from my experience it's far and few in between. And your right-there are huge draw backs mainly when you need to run the heat during the day-lived in North Dakota for many years. Winters are no fun if your trying to stay warm-and for many years in Arizona. Summers not very fun especially if you don't run the A/C 24/7.

I'm in Illinois, so HOT summers and COLD winters. Most heaters around here on gas though, and the pricing only applies to electric and not gas. We run our air SO much every summer, but we hardly use our heater in the winter. We have two gas fireplaces that only need to be on for ten minutes and then the house is toasty for hours.

In limited markets following the introduction of electronic metering, prices can vary between times of low and high electricity network demand.
