Annoying fake cost savings

Of course I'm not naive in knowing this show does a lot of inflammatory stuff to provoke the viewers (separate from the scenes that are just pure outright fakery)

The part that really gets me is the constant over inflation of the savings that people claim.

At first I thought the cheapskates themselves were just delusional. But after seeing quite a few episodes I notice the savings confessional statements all seem to follow some tightly scripted patterns. They also are delivered in an unnatural tone. I think they are being provided with the savings scripts to read.

the guy who puts his books in his luggage and then lifts weights to "save" money because it costs "over 650 a year in a gym membership."

Hate to break this to ya.

That's dangerous what he's doing. But thats him.

AND

Note-I'm not trying to write an ad for the YMCA....just trying to state there's cheaper options than "over 650 a year."

I belong to the YMCA. Maximum family rate they charge is $128 per household.

Breaks down $56 per adult, or $84 a month for an adult couple, no kids
$41 a head for those 0-17.

So for him, his spouse and 3 kids would be $128 a month. Or 25.60 per person. 25.60 per person times 12 months is only $307.20 per year per person. No where near the 650 bucks a year per person the show made it out to be. Yes, 128 times 12 is 1536 a year.

*BUT* the YMCA is huge on if you can't pay full price you can still join.

Because we are low income, hubby and I pay only $30.75 a month/$369 a year.

For a family of 2 adults and 5 kids.

Kids want to join karate? Take swim lessons? That's $15-25 for the entire session of karate, swim lessons or tumbling or whatever. Can't pay? No problem. Bring in proof of income, sign some forms (for scholarships) and you could end up paying anywhere from 0-$10 a head per kid, depending on the program.

A good example is Roy, who claims to save $3 a month on window cleaner by using old coffee grounds in water. Who spends $3 a month on window cleaner?! I admit I probably don't wash my Windows as often as I should LOL ... I probably buy a bottle every year or so for about $2 a pop.

Agreed. They way inflate the "savings" by way overestimating normal costs.
