Kate...again

For some reason, I can't help but re-watch "Kate" every time it's on. In fact, I haven't deleted it this most recent time because I figure I'll want to watch it again. There's something just so...OFF...about Kate.

Anyway, did anyone else notice how scripted some parts of it look? Specifically, when Kate is showing Matt and Rose her bathroom. Rose says it's very small, which Kate acknowledges, and then in the next breath Rose says, "Your outfit is very...INTERESTING." Weird, because there's NOTHING about Kate's outfit [a t-shirt and shorts] that SHOULD have provoked a comment like that. It's clearly scripted, and stuck in there so Kate can tell them how she's had those shorts for 12 years, and keeps them up with a binder clip because the elastic wore out.

Yeah i agree about the outfit comment i thought that when i rewatched it too. There were more than a few parts that seemed scripted but i agree there is something really off putting about kate. I want to see like a part 2 and see what shes doing now.

Lol i have to watch Kate every single time as well. There is something so uncomfortably awkward about her. Was this the very first episode? Because it always seemed the most real to me, I truly believe she lives this way and I was not done for the camera.

Yes, it was the pilot episode.

Yes and no as far as Kate being the first episode. There was a pilot/special episode which I seem to recall featured Jeff Yeager. But Kate was the first episode of the regular series.

Another thing I've noticed after watching this episode multiple times: At the very beginning, as the narrator says "money manager by day," we get a BRIEF glimpse of Kate, ostensibly in her office at work. If you freeze it to get a look, Kate seems quite nicely put together! She's wearing a nice outfit, her hair is neat, and she definitely doesn't look like a dumpster-diving cheapskate.

You know, she SEEMS quite happy. But I wonder if she really is...

I also noticed that tiny glimpse of her working that i have never noticed before and i have seen the episode many times. Another thing i noticed is when she is talking about how she doesnt believe in toilet paper and wont buy it and is describing how she cleans herself off she actually has a roll of toilet paper on the despencer.

Yeah, I've noticed the toilet paper on the dispenser, too. I figured she must have it for guests...although...clearly, she rarely ever HAS guests... So it does make you wonder!

Something else that really strikes me, and I know I've commented about this before in other threads, is how badly her guests treat her. Especially Rose. Rose looks absolutely disgusted the whole time she's there, and at times looks downright angry and/or incredulous. And then her and Matt's comments about the food, like "it just doesn't seem fresh to me" or it doesn't taste good, etc. Yet Kate acts like everything's cool. Is she REALLY that oblivious?
