Fast Food

On the trip to see the doctor the patients gorge themselves on greasy unhealthy fast foods. When they get to the hospital they tell Dr. Now they had to eat fast foods because that's all there was to eat. Most of them probably gained 50 pounds on the way to Houston. I wonder if any of them ever thought about ordering a salad or grilled chicken instead of crispy chicken, water instead of a huge soda, oatmeal with fruit, instead of sausage, pancakes, eggs and biscuits, etc. I guess to them it's like the last meal before going to the electric chair. When Lupe was leaving to go to Houston her "friends and family" threw her a huge barbeque and watched her stuff herself before she left...Brilliant!!

People on this show (and in general) have some crazy ideas about food: Food is love. People express love by making, serving and consuming food. Nobody really cooks: They get prepared food from a drive through. Real cooking might be microwaving store bought items. There's little concept of portion control, how little food people actually need. There's a fear that if you miss a meal, you will starve to death, even if you weigh 600 pounds. And there's no concept of building excerise into your day. The people on this show and their family members are ignorant about nutrition and excessive. They treat obesity as a natural experience like having red hair that they have no control over.

Food is like fuel. If you don't burn fuel you don't need to re-fuel.

I just recently rewatched Penny's episode; during the drive they'd stopped for drive-thru and her husband asked she wanted a grilled or crispy chicken sandwich.

She says crispy (shock!) and he asks for grilled. She started yelling crispy like it was the end of the damn world.

Self-sabotage to the end, that one.

The most annoying person for me that ever appeared on this show was Sean. Doctor sent him home to lose I believe 75 lbs in the first few months. And during the next scene Sean made a statement, "Its hard, but I'm managing. I think that I'm losing weight because I'm limiting fast food to only once per day".

And of course he comes back to see a doctor few months later and he was like 40 lbs heavier.

I wouldn't be surprised if TLC encouraged them to do so in order to show viewers how much they actually eat. Not that they need the actual encouragement ...

It was even more brilliant that for her birthday (about the same time when she finally started losing weight) they thew her a big party with a cake and other unhealthy food.

And there was no reason they couldn't have all healthy food at her party aside from the fact that THEY probably didn't want to eat it. A lot of these family members have the same unhealthy habits. People have such warped concepts of healthy and moderation though, they think a brownie a day or junk food for one meal a day is moderation when...it's not.

My great aunt Jennifer ate a whole box of candy every day of her life. She lived to be 102 and when she'd been dead three days she looked better than you do *now!* - The Man Who Came to Dinner

A brownie a day ain't gonna kill anybody, doubt 1 a day hurts anybody either.

They don't have to "stop" for fast food. They can pack a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, a baggie of carrot sticks and a bottle of a water in a cooler and when they get hungry stop and eat that.

Or stop in a supermarket or minimart type place. They all have veggies, fruits, already cut up, even McDonalds has apple slices.

The families feeding their child, wives, husband, all this food is what get me. Like with Ashley she lives with her family and they didn't have to get Ashley a 2nd helping of food they could have limit her to one plate and made her eat small portions. Ashley mother doesn't have to cook big meals it look like the mom and the daughters wasn't that healthy either. Ashley husband was just as bad constantly getting her what she asked for.

I remember this one lady she drove me crazy I think her name was Penny she had a son and her husband seem like a "yes" man like he does anything she tells him to do. I swear I wanted to reach my hand through the TV and choke that lady myself or smack her husband up side the head for buying all this unhealthy stuff for her. I think its crazy that Penny wasn't even trying to get healthy just kept making excuses.

I don't think hunger has a lot to do with it. I am frequently not hungry at all, or even a bit too full, and yet I want to keep eating just because I like the taste of the food.
