A Well-Rounded Story

(Very slight SPOILER.) Far from too long, A Story of Yonosuke breathes a lifelike too-shortness. Clever placement of the big reveal in an easy to miss line in a flash forward near the film's center turns it into an irresistible mystery. Careful viewers leave the theater feeling as puzzled by but as the same time as complicit in Yonosuke's quirkiness and fate as do his family and friends. Though his choices are sometimes too transparent, Kengo Kora's portrayal of Yonosuke suggests Tora-san's thinking-too-much-spontaneity.
