Check out "When Animals Dream". Same sort of quiet build-up, and with wonderful photography. It is about a girl in her early teens in a very small, isolated fishing village in Denmark who begins to turn into a werewolf. The village is full of things people know but do not talk about.
What I really liked about the movie is that as she is becoming a werewolf, she is beautiful. Not in a human way, but what she becomes is natural to her and not some movie "monster" image. She is not a monster but simply something other than human.
The acting is quiet as well, but if you watch and get into the story, the father especially is very moving in the depths of his love for his wife and daughter and the price he has paid to keep them safe.
Be who you are. Everyone else is already taken.
