Season 5 Review

It kinda ended with a whimper but damn this season was great, setting itself up for a great final season in sixth go round. Whether it's measuring all the damage Phillip and Elizabeth seem to be leaving in their wake, seeing Paige become less of a normal girl and more of an "operative" and the emotional toll that it's taking on her, to whether Stan's new girlfriend is legit. Oleg's new position of "power" in a pretty "powerless" KGB also leaves a pretty open-ended story for season 6.

I see some complaining about the Martha storyline but it could lead some place. I don't think the Soviet Union just hands out orphans but i'm sure the Center has major pull there and Martha having something to take care of will make her less miserable.

More so this is just the most interesting family dynamic on television, almost to the point where I don't know if I want them to get away and find some happiness or suffer for their crimes at this point.

It seems clear Paige will be more into their work in the sixth season and will she find that there is some good in it or will she see the ugliness of it and will that jam a wedge between her and the family.

This is simply the most compelling family on television, hands down. And it's acted beautifully. Fingers crossed that it ends as well as it sets everything up in this season.

I'm reserving judgment on it for now. I know some people have accused it of being "slow" in comparison to previous seasons, and I would have to agree. However, I don't necessarily think that "slow" is a bad thing, either. Not if it comes with great drama like this season did.

I agree that this season seems to be setting up a lot of the story's dominos to fall in the last season next year. I think these preliminary details needed establishing before the show can properly bring it all home in season 6.
