The finales are really low-key
At least the early ones I've seen. They seem more like wrap up episodes than anything. I've been binging on Amazon and was suprised both times that I was into a new season.

shareFunny you'd say that, because I think the finales for seasons 1 and 2 are two of the most exciting episodes of television I've ever seen.
3 and 4 are not quite as thrilling, but have other things to recommend them.
Yeah the season 2 finale was unbelievably intense and insane. I can honestly say I did not see the twist at the end coming at all. I quite literally gasped aloud.
shareI saw them on tv so I had a year gap between seasons so I didn't suddenly find myself in a new season, but I agree that its finales are low-key. I love it, part of The Americans' charm. It's purely about the substance over style, a focus on character drama where a finale can be tense just based on quiet scenes of characters talking. Without spoiling, Season 3's "Stingers" is amazingly tense without having any action, and it's not even a season finale. You'll know the scene when you hit it.
shareThe show is so emotionally tense and draining even at times that when watching a finale (at least live) you have this constant dread that something terrible is going to happen and it ends up bejng a relief when it ends low key. Seasons 1 & 2 of the show in general have their own tones but season 3 is the beginning of one longer story in my opinion and that tone carries through season 4. I'm so pumped for season 5!!!!
