They don't even try to hide the fact that its fake now, Zippys burgers

The zippys was probably the worst acted and most fake EP I have ever seen on this show.
It was like they were just like oh screw it, we don't care how fake this one looks.

In no way are my wife or I clown phobic but Zippy the burger boy is creepy, super creepy, like mil spec creppy.

Is that head made of paper mache?

Yum yum yum yum yum mmm mmm mmm

Ok now im watching them use the parabolic mike, THROUGH THE WIND SHIELD.

OH MY THERE ARE TWO BURGHER BOYS!!!! The horror.

Did an image search for zippy the yum yum burger boy and find just a few drawings, no pics of the dude.

Obviously fake. One big publicity stunt for Zippys. Should be used in acting classes as a good example of "How NOT to act."

I mean even the owner you could tell was "acting" and who the hell couldn't tell if there is someone different in the costume?

I've never watched an episode of this show before tonight. But I just saw a bit on VH1's Best Week Ever showing clips from the Zippy's episode, and my first thought was "Hey, I know that place!" so I had to check it out.

I live within a couple miles of Zippy's and let me say they truly have great burgers.

But I have to agree that everything about this episode seemed completely fake. I've never even seen a mascot in Zippy's before, which makes me wonder if they didn't just create it specifically for this show. And all the participants seemed like actors (but not necessarily good ones).

I like that Zippy's is getting some publicity, but I wish it wasn't this awfulness. Actually, edit that: I wish they didn't get the publicity at all. The lines there can be long enough as it is.

This was my first time watching the show as well, as I generally have an aversion to "reality" shows, save for a couple or so where people seem to benefit from something, contrived as even those shows may be.

I live around 1/2 mile from Zippy's, and for just over a year or now, have been getting there about every 4-6 weeks.

I, too, have never seen the mascot, and didn't even know they had one, despite occasionally making my visits on the weekend.

Not being familiar with the show, and the host/"diners", it probably took me longer than it should have to realize it was just a stunt.

At first, I was wondering why Blaine would "lower" himself, then remembered that even though Zippy's has a retro theme, it's also "hip", and Blaine being a rock-n-roll musician, and having that creative personality, it didn't bother me at all, and I got a good chuckle out of the whole thing.

Regardless, even if I would have been disappointed with Blaine, it would never stop me from enjoying that Zippy's goodness, and in fact plan on stopping by there tomorrow!

What are you looking under here for?

UPDATE: I just got back from having lunch there. Delicious as always!

No sign of Zippy the Yum Yum Burger Boy. When I asked the lady at the cash register where he was, she said he wasn't around right now, but that they might revisit having a mascot in the future. That furthers my theory that they created the mascot just for Mystery Diners.

Btw, yofoureyes, if you're not aware already, they've also started punchcards for repeat customers.

Thanks for the reminder, BFSB!

I've had one in my wallet, since around Christmas, but keep forgetting to have it punched!

What are you looking under here for?

Saw the Zippys episode for the first time today. Thought it was hilarious, but yeah not real at all. Did anyone else think the Zippy mascot looked like Johnny Knoxville?

I totally agree!

So this supposed mascot was "sometimes" acting different yet coincidentally on the day they set up to watch he just happens to get a call and he leaves and his friend fill in?

But yet he didn't really leave and happened to still be in parking lot when the owner comes out?

Also the face on the fill-in dude when the creepy mask was removed from his head was a real tell-tale sign. He had the worst fake "Oh oh, I'm busted" look on his face.

I also watched the one where the employees were having a charity special, stashing $20 each time but then crumpling up the raffle ticket form.

Then when they're called on it they say they have almost $8 grand they all claim it's really for charity and they were really going to give away $1000 prize in the raffle.

I had seen a few other episodes before and they seemed legit, but these two are so obviously fake.

It's like maybe they ran out of real places calling for real situations and decided to make crap up.

Whoever is coming up with these crappy ideas should be fired.

Of course Zippy's was fake, as are pretty much every episode of this show.

Do you remember the episode where a BBQ joint's owner was apalled to find out that his manager was willing to sell the secret BBQ sauce recipe to a competitor? There was an article about another BBQ restaurant owner who was approached by this show offering him the same setup in exchange for free publicity for his restaurant, but he declined because he didn't want to support the phony "he's stealing my recipe" storyline.

I think an elementary school kiddo could have made a better mascot head for Yum Yum! Horrible-looking, in my opinion!

yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum

Just watched it tonight, lol! So hilarious! Dopey Dave was a horrible actor as well! The only reason I watch this show is because it is a comedy and love to laugh at all the stupid scenarios production comes up with.

The episode was followed by Rockabillys. That one was pretty ridiculous too. If they put on a car show all the time, wouldn't the owner be there? If the car show was consistently losing money wouldn't the owner drop by to see what was going on?

I just wish they wouldn't think we were so stupid as to believe it's real and just own up to the fact it's scripted!

The Zippy's episode has one of the most hilarious moments ever on this show though: the absolute moral outrage on Charles's face when he shouts, "There's TWO Zippy the Yum-Yum Burger Boys!"

Charles is a grown man. A grown man filled with righteous indignation as he yells about "Zippy the Yum-Yum Burger Boy."

I LOLed.
