sharePresumably go into a coma and hence join Patrick. The way I understood it, the injection contained some form of anesthesia drug and he meant for her to take an over dose that will put her in a permanent comatose state.

shareWasn't mentioned in the movie, to the best of my recollection. Honestly, it wasn't a very good movie, anyway, so you shouldn't consider details deeper than face value (or at least that's how I perceived it).
I just thought she was meant to take some form of a drug that would render her comatose and hence they would spend the remaining of their physical years together (in subconscious realm, that is).
