Do not watch all of them on a weekend
Except for the first couple you should not watch them one after the other. They replay a lot of the same scenes - which makes sense but it gets repetitive. It's best to watch one a week.

I look at it quite differently. I think he purposely uses parts of the same clips for continuity, to remind us, the viewers, of the changes that person made from 7 up to the current time. It is sort of like seeing a new episode of your favorite TV show, and they start it with a 10-second synopsis of scenes from a previous episode.
I'd bet Apted has plenty of unseen footage from each filming period, but has edited it to show what he thinks is most germane.

Make a choice, to take a chance, to make a difference.
They do that a lot in books as well. If you read a series, you'll have a couple pages where you're reminded of who is who and what is what.
As much as I don't like it, it still does remind me because I forget. I just think it's too much. Really he just needs to show 7 up and then the last UP and I'd be up to date.
The series was created way before binge viewing was ever a 'thing'. The directors and editor logically would have seen a need to remind the viewer of past details. The prevalent editing style used on today's TV docu-series, al a Deadliest Catch and all, is just a repetitive coming off a commercial break with only a couples of minutes passing, not 7+ years. How short has our collective attention span gotten? Squirrel! Who are we talking about?

shareI watched them all within a week and made generous use of the 'fast forward' button. No problem, and saved some time.

Someone should make a version without any repetition. In fact, have it be all the new footage, in chronological order, of one person at a time.
