I don't know if it's the audio in the film or not having the speakers turned up high enough.
What's the deal with talking about an imaginary friend, and why was there a confrontation about it in the classroom? I also don't get the banging on the desktops. There must be a scene that explains it all somewhere, and it keeps getting missed.
Tesuro was the imaginary friend of one of Olivers friends, and everyone seemed to know about that friends (I forget his name) imaginary friend. Oliver plays along and the friend continues the existence of the imaginary friend as a last vestige of childhood. The other friend who is constantly a jerk (about everything, not just Tesuro) causes the one friend to abandon Tesuro and the class knows this is a hostile move. That's why they start pounding the desks and expecting a fight. When Aida dies, Oliver gets drunk and then calls his friend from the party to try to persist some semblance of Tesuro - a desperate ploy to hold on to a bit of childhood.
