Review is going downhill.

Season 1 was great, but through 4 episodes so far, season 2 is not so much the great. s2e1-2 were genuinely awful. Well below where this show set the bar at last year.

Still.....the new episodes are getting comparable IMDB ratings to s1, so maybe my expectations were too high or something. I don't know, but I sad now.

reply

The ratings on IMDB are too low to be statistically significant.

Not everyone who watched rates it, but to ensure it's slightly more accurate, i'll rate these episodes now.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. This show is truly becoming stupid and unwatchable.

Then don't watch it. I personally think shows such as Hoarders, Say Yes to the Dress, Pawn Stars, soap operas, anything that glamorizes the British royal family, anything religious, Nancy Grace, and fake wrestling are stupid and unwatchable so I simply don't watch them. Their continued exist doesn't diminish my life or what I do watch.

The reason I'm still watching it and feeling disappointed is because season 1 was so good. I never liked any of the other shows you listed in the first place. That's the difference.

reply

Pretty much how I finished out s2. At this point I probably won't watch a third season. I thought the first season was so good from start to finish, I never expected it to fall off like this.

reply

Well, I don't think it drammatically lowered its quality. It was less funny overall, but maybe we just got tired of the same old concept.

I did enjoy this season's finale more than the last season's finale, however.

reply

Yeah, there were some decent eps, but it wasn't as strong overall by a fair margin. Season 1 felt like a complete story with a strong dramatic arc (and with a possibly happy ending implied). It was always going to be messy to re-introduce confusion to the situation.

reply

You people are all insane. Season 2 of Review was one of the most brilliant seasons of television I've ever seen.

I agree 100%. Review is among the darkest shows on TV, so its humor obviously isn't for everyone, but Andy Daly really knows what he's doing. In spite of the low ratings I hope Comedy Central sees it our way and gives it one more season.

reply

First and foremost, I love Review. I think Andy Daly is a brilliant comedian.

I'd give season 1 a 9/10, and season 2 a 7/10. It had a great arc, but it just wasn't as funny. I'm torn between this show being absolutely balls to the wall but being in the realm of reality. S2 definitely toed that line for sure, but s1 had an innocent charm to it.

For me, a lot of season 2's humor came from how weirdly, absurdly out of hand many of the reviews got (the floating trash vortex, the other prisoners "killing" Clovers, etc.). Forrest reviews life, but it's not a life that resembles anything any reasonable person would ever experience.

Still, I think/hope this is rock bottom. He's pushing Walter White levels of self and familial destruction. It'd be interesting to see a third (presumably final) season in which he is dealt a series of reviews that, through similarly dark misadventures, inadvertently result in him getting his life together again.

Now, a question of etiquette - as I pass, do I give you the ass, or the crotch?

reply

Nah, this show was great, start to finish.
