Why do people bother selling to these pawn shops

Why do stupid people keep bringing in their rare valuables to these cheap pawn shops and expecting to get a good price out of it? They are in the business to make a profit off of your loss. They should just auction these things off like that Jerry Lee Lewis record that was estimated for $15,000 - $20,000 minimum. That guy could've gone to a high-class auction house and auction it off to a rich billionaire collector for possibly the six-figures he was asking for or millions.
