Didn't he have a rather large role in actually coming up with alternating current. By that I mean HE invented it. Westinghouse backed him when he saw how well AC worked. Is he going to be in this film and given a good bit of recognition or is he going to be forgotten? Because from what I've read about it so far. He's been overlooked.
I am not very knowledgeable of particular details on that story, so feel free to correct me, but if I am not mistaken, Tesla did not invent AC system per se, it existed before, although it was underdeveloped and used mainly for small patents or motors. On the other hand, DC current was popular and used everywhere. But after Tesla patented his famous AC induction motor, Westinghouse saw the opportunities and backed him up, and that turned the tide of the Current War. So, yes, Tesla was a pivotal figure in this story, so, yes, you can say that he kind-of invented the whole thing, he actually fixed all the problems of the AC and set up stages for further development. I think he is as at least important as the other two guys. The other turning point, lightning the Chicago World Fair, was also mainly Tesla's contribution.
It is a shame that such brilliant man is so often forgotten. And I am afraid this might be that situation too. Kicked out from his own story! We shall wait and see, who knows. But I will add this-it is blasphemous that we already have a movie about Mark Zukerberg and TWO movies about Steve Jobs, and yet almost nothing on Tesla. Irony, if it wasn't for Tesla, those guys wouldn't have achieved nothing.
Judging from the 2011 Blacklist script that circulated, Tesla is all over the movie. Was a while ago, but seemed pretty respectful and true to at least what I think happened. I wonder who they'd cast. He'd have been around 30 or so.
Well, let's hope they do not undermine his role in this. Although I would prefer a straight biopic, rather then a supporting role. He had such an interesting personality, and his life was full of twists and turns, it could be interesting not only for his followers and science geeks, but to casual viewers as well. Not to mention again his genius and contributions to humanity.
I don't know, maybe supporting but memorable role in a movie like this could finally show people that this man needs more recognition.
what the *beep* Tesla did all the work, Westinghouse backed him, and he's not a leading role? This just proves again that Tesla will always be overlooked cause he's not an American
I am pretty ignorant about the whole Edison / Tesla thing but from what I know Tesla was a pretty private man. It's possible that Westinghouse might have been a more pivotal figure on his behalf but obviously Tesla was a genius with his Alternating Current. I hope this will be a very factual movie to educate people about this feud.
I'm a big Tesla enthusiast, and my guess would be that in focusing on the "war" part of it, Westinghouse makes a more appropriate foil to Edison than Tesla would. Westinghouse was the business owner. He, Tesla and one other guy (who's name I forget) divided the patent on Tesla's AC induction motor. In exchange, Westinghouse paid Tesla a lot and staked his future endeavors. But Westinghouse was the corporation owner and a more direct competitor of Edison's that Tesla was.
i am a Tesla fanatic, i am also born in the same village as him - the original inventor of the AC was Ferraris , genius man. Westinghouse had to travel to italy to purchase his pattens ,Tesla never knew of him however did credit him as a equal intellect, i hope they cast tesla correctly.
