well either that or mirrors, will hunting did it in his bathroom. i dont know why i didn't notice the connection though. i dont think they were trying to make this character out to be a genius though. Will hunting was definitely shown to be absolutely above everyone he was around intellectually, the wolff character was more detached i felt.

You don't have to be a genius to write on windows. But you definitely have to be smart and efficient.

Why do I say so?

Imagine you have lot of information to go through to find something out or Imagine you have to write lot of stuff down that you need to refer frequently, in those cases if you're writing them on a note book or bunch of paper then every time you want to refer what you wrote, you obviously have to turn a lot of pages, or memorize page numbers if you keep going back to something constantly or keep the papers aligned to get to it quickly, all of which become cumbersome. Also if you have the note book or papers laid out on a table then you are forced to sit near to the table, keep your head tilted down for the long hours you'll be working.

Now if you were to write those information on a bit of paper and pin it on a board or write directly on a board or in this case write on anything that's vertical and work standing, you'd know that it is way more efficient, less tiresome and easy to get to stuff in case you want to refer something. There is more reason as to why investigative people tend to do this. Cause this way you get to notice or make connection between the information you have before.

If you have done any sort of research or a bit of investigation on anything even minute you'd understand.

Some people tend to use glass boards rather than wooden boards reason being in some type of seminars the lecturer might use a projector or a big screen and when he needs to write something will use a board. If the board was a wooden one, it would block the view when the lecturer goes back to point something on the projected image on the big display screen.

However the glass board or window does look cool and hollywood tends to use it often to dramatize stuff.

It is good for group working, or to point things out to others to explain a conclusion.

However, Russell Crowe does it in The Next Three Days, and he is working on his own.

Writing on windows rather than walls, lets us see the character's face, which is important ( while Chris is writing, and while Chris and Dana are discussing ) ; just like movies often need a clever mirror placement, so we can see both faces of a couple who are facing each other. In televised darts, there is often a camera on the board, looking at the thrower.

He writes on windows because he has "A Beautiful Mind" 

i was thinking that scene was remininscent of his boy Damon figuring out that big math problem on the board in Good Will Hunting.... Affleck was all like, "see? I'm smart too!"

Writing on windows must be the most uncomfortable thing ever:
- awkward angle
- holding the arm up all the time
- writing at the abdomen level is even more awkward
- thick marker unpractical because you must write big letters
- you must walk all over the place
