IMDB Message Boards closing [crying_face]
Dear fellow posters, thanks for all the conversations. Probably best if I sign off now, avoid any long tearful farewells.

It's a strange decision.
we have concluded that IMDb's message boards are no longer providing a positive, useful experienceAre they referring to the trolls? To me they're just background noise.
It would be interesting to get a more in depth explanation of this decision.

Any recommendation where can we get the similar experience?
I will be able to decode human mind once I complete my first 1000 movies.
Nothing that I know of.
There's Rotten Tomatoes, but it doesn't have message boards. Just reviews, where only the top reviewers are seen.
Reddit probably has subs for movies, actors, TV shows, etc, but they've got a different system. The upvote/downvote system adds something, but also takes something away in my opinion.
Facebook and Twitter, but anything you write on there will be buried, unless you're an "influencer" (i.e. someone who has a lot of followers, gets a lot of likes).
Nothing like imdb though. Everything in one place, where you can comment on it, and have your comment stay no matter how dumb you are.
Unfortunately imdb will be relegated to The Old Internet, an Internet of simpler times.
If there is a demand though, maybe someone else will step up and fill the niche.

I did have a look but I don't immediately understand their system. I log in and see posts but I can't reply to them.
It looks suspiciously like they have an upvote/downvote system that I don't like on social message boards.
Sure, if I'm looking for the best answer to some technical question. But if people are just voting based on taste or opinion, you're just just looking at Emergent Phenomenon. Which is interesting objectively, but ultimately disheartening.

I honestly do think it's because of the trolls. I mean, if you are a new user and you so onto the Walking Dead, Game of Thrones or X Files group, for example, you immediately get attacked by some idiot and you see that it's this giant community where they all know each other and have no jobs, and just post all day. Like, what they are eating for breakfast, and how drunk they are, etc. I suspect that turns off a lot of new people who would like to post about a particular movie or TV show. It's just not civil.
Then the world is getting more extreme: liberals are getting even more fanatic, and conservatives voted in this nightmare. So that has people screaming and pointing fingers and labeling and generalizing and it's just pointless! I think that is why IMDB is saying "screw this, we didn't create this site so that a bunch of losers could sit and chat all day, and call people names".
I hope that someone starts up a new site, just like IMDB. It's so user friendly. Just, make enough money to hire people to prevent trolls from taking over.
A simple mind is a tidy mind.
