Not one clip I've seen on YouTube looks even remotely cool or interesting. So it's just a basic soldier story and they pick Vega! The animation is also pretty average. I'll definitely pass. They really should be doing a pretty large budget animated movie for Mass Effect, possibly even a trilogy that mirrors the games.

Its like saying a book sucks because the font isnt to your liking. Perhaps you should look a little deeper into things such as story, just maybe.
I Thought it was great - I'm a 37 y/o male who has only played the MA1 (and now will go back and play 2 and 3) because back then, like you, I didnt pay much attention to more adult things such as story or the emotive impact of it. I'm not even ashamed to say my eyes watered over in various scenes and the impossible decision Vega had to make at the end.
I would, however, liked to have seen even a silhouette of the legendary Shephard as the doors opened at the end. That would have been perfect. But all in all, loved it. Sure, there have been much better cgi/handrawn marriages out there in the anime world but you dont have to binarily lump them in either the *beep* and 'great' catagories based purely and petulantly as a spoilt teenager would. Grow up some.
Just saw it.. and i have to admit im not a big MASS E fan - but ive tried the demo. and was going to buy the game - looked interesting.
However i have to say that the Anime- though it might look hand drawn ( witch i think was the idea) and very JP Anime like . does not bring the movie down at all.. actually its quiet good and much above average .
Im a big fan of Japanese anime and know the style..
The movie had a good plot line and was very entertaining. reminded me of Starship Troopers ( the first one)
it had lots of hart and grit. i gave it an 8 - because it was actually as good as some of the top anime movies out there..
id recommend it to people who love anime.
iif you wanted a different art style to watch and only watch Disney or DC animation then stay away.
I also just saw it. As a fan of mass effect but not one of Japanese animation, I found it pretty terrible. If you have played the games, it wont give you any new insight into the universe. It is a personal story of characters you wont care about and even have a hard time telling apart. The dialogue is offensively bad and delivered by overly dramatic actors trying to match the over the top animation.
The Japanese also seem to have a gift for portraying children in the worst possible way, everytime that little girl came on screen, I was hoping she would die.
The criminal underuse of the Mass Effect soundtracks is a mystery to me. It pops up a few times, but is mostly replaced by something that sounds like stock music.
If you don't have a dislike for most Japanese animation like I do, then you might be midly entertained, but it will be an entirely forgetful experience none the less. I don't understand why this was made, and it really seems like this was supposed to have come out before Mass Effect 3
Also, why the hell were the collectors 5 meters tall?

Why would you recommend this to people that love anime? It's like saying you recommend this to people who love movies. There are tons of different anime styles and I love some anime yet I think this sucks a55. Story wise the plot is interesting before it was turned into this mangled script delivered by actors that don't know how to do voice acting. However that might have more to do with the lines they are delivering. The story and direction is all over the place and it's been a while since I rolled my eyes this much. This is just worse than the bottomfeeder syfy made for tv movies...
Someone mentioned Deadspace - now that was a nice adaptation I agree.
I also think it looks horrible ! Looked like an Animated Film from Decades ago at this point.Might as well just made a film using the Game Engine Type Animation as this looks like krap.
That being said I am just stating this on visuals.I have no idea about the story.I will just have to force myself to sit thru the bad animation to check out if the story is any good.
I find it funny that (for the nost part) people only complain about the animation. Like these guys aren't known for having that type of animation. Has no one seen the original clone wars cartoon?

yeah at least they actually look like their movie parts.. this vega looks nothing like the one in the game. The only saving grace was having the freddie prince jr return as his voice.

Story sucks? Seriously? Quite good connections with the other Mass Effect products, other than the games. And what would you expect from such a movie? Real deep ancestral meaning of human condition? They're soldiers, not philosophers, yet each of them is a distinct archetype And yet you still have it at the end of the movie. Because, what do you know, that's why it's called "Paragon Lost". Look up on the meaning of the concept. But do it in a library.
Just because it wasn't what you expected, it doesn't mean it was crappy. You all expect high end graphics and/or actors that you've seen in hundreds of roles, you don't even know which one to associate them with (Well, except Johnny Depp). How about this: you try and make something even remotely close, and have others criticize it.
Hell, I've seen the new Total Recall as well. And aside from the "stolen" "Mass Effect" and "Blade Runner" combo of architecture, it has no substance compared to this "crappy" animation. But it has a better score exactly because of a certain type of people whose idea of a good movie is Twilight and Hunger Games.
P.S. That Praetorian was the creepiest thing I've seen in an animated movie. Too bad they didn't make them this creepy in the games as well.
Yes, the graphics do suck, the content is good though. Apart from that it opens up a sort of parallel universe in ME saga where the main events contradict the game.
