I didn't quite get this part, What did Bishop actually do with Mary? By saying "You know where she is, Jane. Everyone misses you there.", did he mean that she was being kept in the brothel?!

Looked to me like she was put to work as a laundress. A laundress in a brothel would not be a pleasant job but if that was all she was required to do it wasn't to bad. Maybe Bishop should been more specific about her duties. Might have worked out better for him though I doubt it.

Maybe it would have. Then again, they were surely waiting for her to grow up, so that they could change her duties.. So, yeah, he would probably be a goner anyways.

That comment did not make sense to me at first, but I guessed it before we see Jane go back to the brothel.

Hopefully she was being used only as child labor, not pedophilia.

In those days they would have probably put her to work about 12, thankfully she wasn't that old yet and got away.
