6.9 ? You're insane

John Cleese's Alimony Tour is a heartfelt and unparalleled masterpiece.
An autobiographical romp through Cleese's acting career. The story of
one of the truly most talented, intelligent, genre changers of comedy
history.

The show is a loving tribute to those he worked with, from his mother
to Graham Chapman and beyond.

Some very special moments with behind the scenes looks and secrets to
how some of his most popular and controversial works got made.

I loved every minute of it.

Thank you John Cleese, you magnificent magician of comedy.

I could listen to John Cleese talk all night.

You would have to be a real fan of John Cleese to appreciate the stand-up show. Some people only see Basil Fawlty or Monty Python when they think of Cleese and stand up is not something many associate with him.
I'm with you. Great show, very funny and a great tribute to both his career and talent. But many have not even heard of this DVD . . . . especially in the States.

Well I think you've been somewhat duped. This show is exactly what Cleese jokes it is, a way of making a quick buck to pay off his wife's alimony settlement.

There isn't much in the way of new material, and it's mostly either
a) Cleese reminiscing self indulgently about his past career, or
b) the usual video clips of his older material from decades ago.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, but for me it was just a rehash of past glories in pursuit of money. So I would personally contend that a real fan of John Cleese (and I am one) may be exactly the sort of person who will feel a bit conned by buying this on dvd.

I notice that the Pythons are already hinting at doing all the old sketches again in their forthcoming sell-out tour, rather than new material. I thought they were ripping us off when they did this in "Live at The Hollywood Bowl", and that was in 1982! To still be at it in 2014 is, as they say, a bit "beyond a joke".

Best comedy group ever, mind.

I'm half-way between the op and andy-blunt: before coming here I gave it a 6.
Yes, it's fun and (to a point) heartfelt, but it's A LOT of rehash of clips and anecdotes Cleese fans know by heart (and who else will watch this?).
One of the highlights is a video of the speech that Cleese gave at Chapman's funeral. One odd thing though is that while Cleese is delivering the speech, we see shots of several Pythons (I remember Gilliam and Jones) listening with dead serious expressions until they burst out laughing at the punchline, as if they didn't expect one second that Cleese was setting them up for it. Come on. :)
So anyway, a bit disappointed but... it's John Cleese, dammit! :D
