Is it really that hard to get her amulet?

Why is it so hard for that wizard to steal the little girl's amulet? It looks like it could be simple. I mean he's always trying to trick her into giving it to her willingly but why does he just do something simple like bash her on the head and take it from her while she's unconscious or magically teleport into her room while she is sleeping and take it from her then? I know it's a kids show and they can't really do anything like that but still I ask.

Bash her on the head? That made lol.

You're right, it's a childrens' show. Don't question just understand.

Well yes, the obvious answer is that it's a kids' show and the network would never let them get away with having the villain actually hurt the child main character. But, that isn't really that satisfying an answer to me, so I've tried to find an in-universe explanation. I've come up with two.

For one thing, Cedric is a sorcerer. It is kind of a common trope in fiction for mage-type characters to gravitate toward complicated magical plots without first considering more simple solutions because that's just the way that they're conditioned to think.

The other is a bit more complicated. I put forth that he doesn't try more actively to take Sofia's amulet because he doesn't really want to. Consider: what is Cedric's motivation in wanting to take over the kingdom? He's tired of people looking down on him and denigrating his abilities; he wants people to respect him and he thinks that taking over the kingdom using the power of Sofia's amulet is the only way to achieve that end. What he didn't take into account when he first formed this plan was Sofia herself. Sofia respects him and believes in him and stands up for him when everyone else doesn't. He seems to be both surprised and genuinely moved by this development and it throws a kink in his plan; loathe as he is to admit it he has developed a sort of affection for her because of her respect and affection for him and I think that, at least subconsciously, he doesn't really want to do something that he knows is going to harm her. Some of this is, admittedly, speculation based on what I've seen of the show; but I don't think that I'm too far off base.

And now that I've realized how much thought and over analysis I've just put into a show made for pre-schoolers, I think I need to step back think about my life.

My take on it is similar to the silver/ruby slippers of the Wizard of Oz. This is a magical amulet that was given to her by the owner of the amulet. This amulet has to be given willingly. Stealing it might render it benign or it might do something harmful to the potential thief similar to what the slippers did to the witch. Now the difference between the 2 is that Dorothy couldn't willingly give up the slippers, she had to be dead for Elphaba to take them. Same must be for this amulet. Sofia must give it up willingly, however I'm unsure of her giving it up begrudgingly.

Okay first of all look at what happened when Amber stole it she was cursed by bringing Princess Ivy along who tried to take over the kingdom, and second of all, I've been noticing in all of season 2 that Cedric doesn't seem as willing or wanting to take it anymore, he has not once plotted to take it or have tried to trick Sofia into giving it to him in season 2 like he did in season 1, in season 1 he used every chance he could to try and take it and trick her into giving it to him.

Not just because of Sofia believing in him he seems to generally care about her and he knows how much the amulet means to her, but because the royal family especially Roland are starting to realize how great of a sorcerer he really is he even ganged his fathers respect and got the family wand and that was the whole reason he wanted to take it in the first place and wanted to take over the kingdom because he wants respect and admiration.

Which is why I think he doesn't care anymore about taking the Amulet, because he's finally getting what he wanted the most and because he generally really cares about Sofia now, because of her belief in him and her friendship.

Being princess of the country, I'm sure she has mad security to make sure stuff doesn't get taken or she doesn't get bashed in the head, which BTW is something I can't even see Cedric doing!

maybe just my own little guess.
he's not really evil and doesn't want to actually win.
It happens in stories you know?

Cedric is "misunderstood" under appreciated and not very good as a soccorer He thinks that by becoming King he will get respect

But Sofia seems to have a slight influence on him

Have you seen the mermaid episode? His actions there are no doubt evil. He captures a mermaid who is Sofia's age, locks her in a cage out of the water. The mermaid is trapped, afraid, and probably suffering as he performs various spells to try to steal her magical crown. When Sofia gets in the way, he tries to use magic to kill her by making her disappear. That episode is honestly the first time I took him seriously as a villain, and I'll be very disappointed if the show ends with his schemes never being discovered.

Yes I have, but in almost a lot of episodes of Season 2 he's also been one to help save pretty much everyone. I didn't see Season 2 by the time I wrote my original reply to this thread, But I still say after watching season 2 he's more good then bad. Didn't care much for some of the changes however one of the episodes i tended to dislike was when they went to the retirement home, we learn that his mother and father are still alive. His father is supposed to be the good guy yet he treats Cedric horrible and his mother supposed to be the bad girl and he treats him like a son. I didn't like this change so much for the father and I didn't like his parents being alive actually I thought it was best they were dead

It's true in the mermaid episode yeah that was him at his most evil but it also probably the only episode in which I think he truly acted evil. He REALLY changes in Season 2 and I think him just being as evil as he was in that episode was only meant to be something to keep the story going. If they turned him all good however people would be less interested in him I think.

But I hope maybe it's something of how they end the series.

reply

Could be interesting if they made him turn good. Maybe that is the endgame plan. I hope they just do something with him, and not just ending the show with him having the same job and goal.

I agree about his parents. I saw the episodes out of order, so I saw the retirement one first. When I saw the other one, where they come out of the picture, the change in personality was soooo different, I just pretend the photo versions weren't really them. That's the only thing that would make sense.

Well Cedric did get the amulet BUT there is a cost if he does something bad like trying to take over the kingdom he is cursed by it

so he gives it back (to a point)
