The liberal subtext

In one of the short movie interviews with the cast and crew shown between episodes of the film , Ridley Scott suggest how evil medicine can become because of the profit motive. The implication being that medicine would be so much better off if the government controlled it.

If people think that this fictitious film is a horror story, they need to wake up to the real horror story of socialized medicine and death panels.

Now that would make for a terrific horror film. However no one in Hollywood would ever make it.

A&E is a very liberal network. This is not the first time they have produced films that promote that agenda.

BTW. I found the ending confusing as well. Was it a dream or not?

The real horror stories of medicine started back in the 80's when Big Business decided to stick their nose in, and eventually take over, hospital business. Gradually over the past 25-30 years the focus of medicine has moved from the patient to the profit.
I don't know a lot about socialized medicine, but I do that someone needs to be making the hard decisions because families have to much guilt to make intelligent decisions. Do death panels actually kill or do they simply make the decision when to stop or deny treatment? Is is wise to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to keep someone alive who will never have any quality of life? Who pays for that?
Just wondering if you might be connected to the medical field in some way. Robin Cook was always a bit ahead of his time with his "medical horror". But often he is right on with was does, or could happen.
Please don't think I am trying to start a fight, I just found your post interesting.

Death Panel Update: British Journal Article Recommends Dehydrating Dementia Patients to Death to Save Money

A recent editorial in the British Medical Journal recommends dehydrating dementia patients to death to save money.
Lifesite News reported:

The courts should not interfere with doctors who want to dehydrate to death incapacitated patients who are a drain on scarce financial resources, according to an editorial in this week’s edition of the prestigious British Medical Journal.

Needless to say the information you receive from Google depends on which sources you read.

Did you actually read the article on Betsy McCaughey? It showed what she had to say was a big heaping stinking pile of BS. Why you would submit that as evididence to support your argument is beyond me.

I agree with you fictionalman. I have seen several countries medical systems in place and I wouldn't trade the US system (though it has some flaws and could use some streamlining) for the world. I watched in England as a young man with a severely infected cyst on his back was denied care until a "later" time of which the National Healthcare Service would oblige him, nevermind it was a month from his coming into the hospital. They didn't even give him antibiotics before they sent him packing out the door with a letter to come back for his scheduled appointment of which he probably would have a severe blood infection and be sick as a dog by then. So I can believe, that and I have medical professionals in my family that are probably going to leave the profession if Obama is re-elected because so much of the so called Affordable Healthcare Act is going to hamper and make their jobs worse. BTW the movie of COMA was not a dream.

Thousands die every day for no reason at all, where's your bleeding heart for them?

Thanks. It's very difficult debating someone with a closed mind.

A closed mind? You are posting links to bias right wing sources and other sources that you are not even reading and they are irrelevant and don't even serve a purpose to whats going on. What does Obama's healthcare plan or the UK healthcare plan have anything to do with this show COMA. All you do is spam other message boards posting right wing conspiracy sources that you don't even read. Get a life you parasite.
