China?

Okay, so i can dig most of the problems with this series, *beep* happens, sometimes you need to cram a whole episode into the last 10 minutes... but the most disturbing part of this series for me was the very last scene.

What was the message from china all about? Was she still hoping that he'd come join her in "the glorious future of medicine"? was there a second factory in china? it feels like the vestigial tail of the books. Anyone have theories?
