Just one question.

Without giving any spoilers (well, a vague one), can someone simply confirm or deny that this story wraps-up like all of Robin Cook's books seem to? Y'know, "the good guys lose, the bad guys get away with everything, and the ultimate outcome is even more tragic and disturbing than the events that lead to the protagonists getting involved" sort of ending.

Basically, I absolutely don't want to watch this if it's the usual depressing fare Cook seems to think is entertaining. On the other hand, if this doesn't have a 100% depressing, morbidly tragic ending, I'd happily give it a go.

Thanks. :)

Just out of curiosity where did you get the notion that Robin Cook's stories have "the good guys lose, the bad guys get away with everything, and the ultimate outcome is even more tragic and disturbing than the events that lead to the protagonists getting involved" sort of ending[s]? While it's true one does see less-than-HEA endings in some of them: Toxin, Fever, Mutation, Godplayer, Harmful Intent, Marker, and others (it's been a while), most have quite satisfying outcomes: Contagion, Outbreak, Vital Signs, Vector, Mindbend, Mortal Fear, Terminal, Fatal Cure, Acceptable Risk, and others, at least at the level of "the bad guys lose even if the good guys fail too." Certainly, in Coma that's at least implied.
As far as the mini-series is concerned the ending is either so confusing (it's possible the entire series was just a dream by the protagonist)it's impossible to give a straight answer, or mostly--most of the villains are/ are going to be caught, their operation--at least as how it would hurt the protagonists and their families--is shut down, the protagonists are alive and thriving.
