Didn't get the ending (spoiler)

Felt a little melodramatic. After filming the last shot of production, Tippi breathes a huge sigh of relief and smiles as she walks off set. Why is she so happy? Hitch keeps her under contract for another two years ruining her career. And Hitch is shown as being a misty eyed broken man after she leaves. Again, why? It's like the movie is trying to hit an emotional note that isn't there. All throughout the movies he's depicted as an arrogant bastard and creep, but in the last shot it's like they're trying to make him sympathetic as though he was really in love with her.

My dvr cut off right as he said cut and she smiled and looked relieved. Was there anything else after this? any explanation at all?

But we see her hair back to blonde in the previous scene in his office.

To answer the OP's question:

Because it's a badly-made movie. That's pretty much it.

reply

Because they needed an ending that they felt was more powerful.

I think he was in love with her, in his horrible twisted way. Don't equate being in love with someone with treating them well, because here it doesn't apply. Hitchcock hated himself, and kind of hated humanity. This is well documented.

The scene bothered me because he says "Cut" and she takes her wig off. He didn't say "Print", so how does she know he won't want another take?
